Russian polls; disarmament

3-6-14   Russian poll:  In 2009 73% in favor of more active measures to defend the interests of Crimea’s Russian-speaking population, with 15% taking opposite view.  A March 1/2, 2014 poll found “practically the same” results.  However, now 38% believe Russians and Ukrainians do not have much in common, whereas 5 years ago this was at 16%.  (Now 44% Russians queried believe Russians and Ukrainians have much in common.)

In a poll conducted in late February by the All-Russian Public Opinion Center, which works closely with the Kremlin, 29 percent of respondents described the events in Ukraine as “rampant anarchy and banditry,” 25 percent described them as “a coup and overthrow of the state” and 27 percent saw them as the outbreak of a civil war.  http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/06/world/europe/for-russian-tv-channels-influence-and-criticism.html?_r=0

3-5-14                     But since dual citizenship in Ukraine is illegal,… Putin claims to be defending “compatriots,” but that is a category that has no meaning….The 1919-1938 European system was based on the principle of state sovereignty. No doubt this was an imperfect and incomplete moral and legal basis for international relations. And yet its violation meant the end of the system itself.                    http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/05/opinion/russia-ukraine-austria/
However, there are endless riddles often left unfaced by mankind.  One more doesn’t particularly matter.  But disarmament without disarming the carnal mind won’t work.  Disarmament without the vital and far-reaching exposure of the emerald ray of Truth also won’t work.  -r

3-4-14 Gorbachev was genuinely shocked when 90 per cent of Ukrainians voted for independence on December 1st, 1991.

The Russian government under Boris Yeltsin, who was determined to break up the Soviet Union, immediately recognised Ukraine as an independent country….
Russia’s legal counsel Sergey Shakhrai came up with the formula that met their requirements. A Cossack lawyer with a curling moustache, he argued that as the USSR was founded on the basis of a 1922 treaty signed by Russia, Belarus and Ukraine (and the Transcaucasian Federation that had ceased to exist), so the three surviving states could legally dismantle it.
At 4pm, on Sunday, December 8th, the Slav leaders signed the Agreement on the Creation of a Commonwealth of Independent States.

It stated: “We, the Republic of Belarus, the Russian Federation (RSFSR), and Ukraine, as originators of the USSR on the basis of the Union Treaty of 1922, confirm that the USSR, as a subject of international law and a geopolitical reality, ceases its existence.”

The new commonwealth would have no flag, no ministry of foreign affairs, no parliament, no citizenship, no tax-raising powers and no president. …
Gorbachev, the (rather powerless) Soviet leader, accused Yeltsin of “some kind of a political coup… meeting in the woods and shutting down the Soviet Union”. http://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/europe/how-ukraine-s-fate-was-decided-in-a-hunting-lodge-1.1712000?page=1

As a result, the Union for which Lincoln gave his life has been steadily subverted in an ongoing revolution that has nearly destroyed the delicate architecture of the American republic with its limited powers, checks and balances, and individual sovereignty. -Messenger ECP, see http://books.google.com/books?id=-HVCQjNiM1kC&pg=PA102&dq=clare+prophet+lincoln&hl=en&sa=X&ei=EfsYU__xOs76oAT80ILAAw&ved=0CDQQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=clare%20prophet%20lincoln&f=false
