Booth diary missing pages

IMG_4905 With Jay Cooke at the Astor Hotel I met Thurlow Weed, Sen. Chandler and a Mr. Bell who said he was a friend of John Conness…The speculators in cotton and gold would do anything–including murder–to make the amount of money they have….Conness said he would supply the new passwords every six weeks….Thompson gave me $50,000 in banknotes with instructions to take $15,000 to Sen. Conness and to leave in a sealed envelope $20,000 in notes at the home of Sen. Wade….No matter who speaks for Baker, I do not like him and wil not trust him….I believe that Baker and Eckert and the Secretary (of War) are in control of our activities.       -Booth handwriting, in missing Booth diary pages; published in Balsiger and Sellier:  The Lincoln Conspiracy, 1977, pp. 220, 314.

In 1972 at a La Tourelle fireside chat, Colorado Springs, Messenger Mark Prophet stated that Abe Lincoln was the reincarnation of a hard-hearted pharoah who ordered the firstborn of Egypt killed in the days of Moses’ coming.  Further he stated, Lincoln had in an earlier reincarnation enslaved the blacks (probably at Egypt)–thus he had alot of karma.  “Working out his karma; go and do likewise,” said Mark.  Mark added that as Charles Lindbergh, Jr., via his son’s tragic kidnapping/death, this soul knew suffering.   I also heard on that occasion a young black woman ask Mark, “My family name is Helios, isn’t that a great name?”  Mark replied quickly, “Second only to Prophet.”         -im42na

In truth, President A. Johnson referred privately to his war secretary’s (Stanton’s) duplicity, declaring that he knew no man who could be more obsequious than Stanton….Stanton was perfectly placed to thwart Johnson’s efforts to empower Southern state governments….The war within the Johnson Administration emerges in the explanation offered by one of Grant’s senior aides:  “A Cabinet Minister (Stanton)  and the General of the Army (along with Radical Republicans) were doing their utmost to thwart the President”*….In May 1865 a Radical congressman reported Stanton’s assurance that the secretary of war was “heart and soul with us.”  -D.
